Virgin Media O2 has announced plans to lay off 2,000 staff in the telecoms company’s first major job cuts since its inception two years ago.
On Tuesday, the group said it had shared its proposals with employee unions and representative groups.
It joins rivals BT and Vodafone in cutting headcount, as companies seek to cut costs and take advantage of the digital revolution.
“As we continue to integrate and transform as a company, we are currently consulting on proposals to streamline our operating model to better deliver to customers, which will see a decrease in some roles this year,” the company said.
She added, “While we know that any period of change can be difficult, we are committed to supporting all of our people.”
